Apple Chips

September, to me, tastes like apples.
It means cozy sweaters, crisp mornings, and one of my favorite family traditions—apple picking!
We’ve been doing this since I had my first child 23 years ago. Over the years, our apple-picking adventures have become a little piece of our family history. And, of course, the apples always come home with us!
I’ve turned those apples into just about everything over the years—apple pies, applesauce, apple candy, and apple turnovers. Each year, I try to find something new to make, and this September I’m adding a new favorite to the list: Crispy Apple Slices with our Coratina EVOO (extra virgin olive oil).
Thinly sliced apples are tossed with a little sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, and our Coratina Extra Virgin Olive Oil, then slowly baked until they become irresistibly crisp. You can also use our Picual EVOO.
They’re sweet, crunchy, and surprisingly addictive!
Enjoy them by the handful when that sweet tooth strikes—or try them alongside a delicious sandwich instead of potato chips.
And if you're heading out apple picking this September, bring home a few extra apples. You might just have a new recipe to try.
Ingredients
• 4 apples
• 2 tsp granulated sugar
• ½ tsp cinnamon
• ¼ tsp nutmeg
• ¼ tsp cardamom
• 1 Tbsp Pure Olive Picual or Coratina EVOO
Directions
- Preheat oven to 225°F and line 2–3 baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Thinly slice apples using a mandolin or sharp knife. Arrange slices on the baking sheets without overlapping.
- Mix the sugar and spices, then add the EVOO and rub together until the mixture resembles wet sand. Sprinkle lightly over the apple slices.
- Bake for 1½ hours, flipping halfway through. If the apples are still soft, bake for another 30 minutes.
Let cool completely—and try not to eat them all at once! Store in an airtight container.
